Building myself up

My name is Andrea Marsanasco, I come from Italy, and I recently graduated in Design & Engineering at Politecnico of Milano after spending more than a year interning at VanBerlo design agency in The Netherlands.

Throughout my studies and internships, I have developed a strong understanding of product design and development processes, enabling me to effectively define product requirements, explore the design space, and test solutions. Thanks to my experience with 3D modeling softwares and rapid prototyping I can quickly iterate through ideas. In addition to my technical skillset, I understand the importance of collaboration and teamwork when it comes to product development. I am adept at working with others and can contribute in a meaningful way to ensure successful outcomes!

As a design engineer passionate about sports, I have been following with curiosity and interest how additive manufacturing changed the way we can design products to achieve a higher level of performance, and that’s something that I am eager to learn. In this direction, I already have some experience using Topology Optimization, which has been part of my graduation project and on which I hosted an internal masterclass at VanBerlo. I also have been learning how to model parametrically and understand the logic behind data manipulation and its power in order to handle geometrical complexity.

Work experience

VanBerlo design agency / Graduation internship

Duration

May 2022 to December 2022

Description

The graduation project was developed within VanBerlo, and executed for Gyromotics, a company based in The Netherlands, developing and producing prosthetic feet, featuring an innovative ankle system.

During this internship, I worked full-time on my graduation project which was about designing an innovative dampening system for prosthetic feet. Topology Optimization was a key element within the starting brief and I also hosted an internal masterclass about it within VanBerlo. During the development of the product, in addition to the design activities, I learned to plan my time according to objectives, involve the client, and to present the work in progress to VanBerlo and the University.

VanBerlo / Internship

Duration

September 2021 to February 2022

Description

During these six months as a Design Engineer intern at VanBerlo, I have been working on several projects, helping develop mechanical prototypes (I have been using daily 3d printers), CAD models, and design and engineering concepts. During this internship, I learned methods to explore the design space, understood the importance of validating solutions through prototypes, and learned how to design the tests themself.

ZAAF Design / Internship

Duration

March 2021 to July 2021

Description

At ZAAF Design I have been working on multiple projects. The main one was the design of a toddler’s sink bath, Baby coccola, which involved the Design For Manufacturing, styling, and CAD modeling.
